Community Recreation

Through a unique partnership with Surrey Parks Recreation and Culture, SACL offers support for children with special needs in a wide variety of recreational activities in their community. 

We proudly offer the following inclusive and adaptive programs for your child or teen.  Our goal is for all children to be included in community programs with their peers.

Adapted Swim Lessons

Dive into our one to one supported swim program. The Red Cross Program is adapted to suit the child’s individual pace and needs. The lessons are fun and challenging so bring your swimsuit and a smile! Lessons are Saturdays at the Newton Wave Pool

Adapted Skating Lessons

Lace up the skates and get on the ice to try our newest program, Adapted Skating!

This unique one to one program will teach your child or teen the basics of skating, at their own pace. Helmets and skates are available for rental at an additional cost. Helmets are mandatory!

Fun For Kids!

Are you looking for something fun to do on Saturdays? Are you between the ages of 6-12? If so, we have the program for you. We provide a social environment where you can participate in games, arts & crafts, sports, field trips and much more.

Staff support provided (ratio 1:3) Come and meet some friends and have fun.  This program runs at both the Cloverdale Recreation Centre, and the Newton Community Centre

Teen Blast!

Need something to get you off the couch on Saturdays? Choose your own adventure from various activities. Check out the leisure guide for details and events!  This program is for teens ages 12-18.

*S.T.A.R. Program

Surrey Teens Achieving Results is an after school Program for teen that provides individuals with supported leisure activities. The program runs Monday to Thursday at local youth centre. S.T.A.R. provides teens with supported activities, in an inclusive environment. (Click on the Participant Guide to the left for detailed information)

Pre-School Support Program

This service will provide a 1 - 1 support for a child in a community pre-school program to assist with all aspects within the school setting.

 Summer Fun

The day camp for teens!

Many outdoor activities to make sure the summer is a time of relaxation and fun. Whether it is the waterslides, a picnic or to the beach, there is sure to be an activity you are going to love. Do not miss Summer Fun!  (Click on the Participant Guide to the left for detailed information)

Summer Day Camps

Join your friends or make new ones in these weeklong summer day camps with one to one support. Offered through Surrey Parks Recreation, these inclusive camps have different themes. Choose your favourite or go where your friends are!

Kids Camp

Join us for a camping adventure. This fully inclusive and supported expedition is located at Camp Sasamat.

 

Summer Away Camps

Teen Camps

Surrey Association for Community Living, in cooperation with Surrey Parks Recreation and Culture, offer TEEN VACATIONS! These are summer holiday programs available to teens with special needs ages 13-18. 

This is an opportunity to participate in five days of summer fun at Whistler Village or Penticton.

All accommodations are fully equipped.

Surrey Association’s Teen Vacations runs concurrently with Surrey Parks and Recreation’s Spirit Leadership Program. Through the summer, we have 62 teens that participate, 38 teens are registered through Surrey Association, and 24 registered through the Spirit Leadership Program. The partnership with Parks and Recreation helps promote integration and allows the teens to meet others from around the community.

 

Kids Camps

Surrey Association for Community Living is pleased to offer KIDS CAMP, a summer camp sponsorship program available to children with special needs.

This is an opportunity for children to participate in a week of summer fun at Camp Sasamat!  SACL provides one to one support staff to ensure your child receives appropriate supervision.

Camp Sasamat

Located north of Port Moody, in Belcarra, this facility is run by the Association of Neighborhood Houses. The program is a five-day residential camp for children ages 8-12 years old. As accessibility is limited, this camp is not recommended for children who use wheelchairs. Support provided by the Surrey Association for Community Living.
