Our Programs

Surrey Association for Community Living is committed to providing the highest quality, community based services for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Our goals are to provide programs and support services that will enable both adults and children to participate to the greatest extent possible in daily living within the community.

All our programs are designed to support the persons’ right to liberty, personal freedom, dignity and a meaningful life.  We work to strengthen and enhance existing support systems as well introducing new programs as required to assist each participants’ life goals.  It is our goal to contribute to the persons’ ability to control his/her environment and to always strive to contribute to maximize those qualities that have been defined as strengths. All our staff are guided by an overall philosophy of dignity, human development, autonomy, human relationships, self expression and a sense of responsibility.

Our goals:

To maintain each individual’s dignity by:

  • Providing services which allow opportunities to experience the community according to his/her abilities.
  • Supporting each person to live and work in settings realistically suitable to him/herself and others.
  • Assisting individuals to grow in self knowledge and self esteem
  • Help to identify those character and behaviour traits acceptable to the individual and the community.
  • Assisting individuals to express a respectful self image.

To preserve each individual’s autonomy by:

  • Enabling development of self-determination.
  • Assisting individuals to exercise mature control of his/her life and make informed decisions.
  • Helping individuals to discover and develop his/her natural abilities and interests towards goal oriented behaviours related to his/her self actualization.

To support each individual’s self expression by:

  • Providing support to enable individuals to be able to express their opinions about how to meet their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs.

  • Providing a climate of opportunity for trust to enable eact individual to demonstrate their own uniqueness talents and aspirations and to be able to share them with others.

To support each individual’s sense of responsibility by:

  • Assisting individuals to understand how their activities, emotions and drives can affect those around them.

Supporting individuals in assuming responsibility for their goals, tasks and commitments.
